Why you should drink tea.

The kids have only been in school for a few short weeks and the colds, stomach bugs and infections are already starting.

I will share some tips with you every Tuesday, hopefully to help keep those dreaded bugs away.

Of course, no one food will protect you from sickness. Your health is wrapped up in your lifestyle, so even if you drink green tea all day long, you also need to take care of yourself in other ways, like not smoke, be active, and by eating a healthy diet.

Did you know that by drinking a warm cup of green tea can help ward off the effects of the cold or the flu? Tea is a rich source of polyphenols and other substances that protect the body against flu and colds.

Substance EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), contained in green tea is a powerful antioxidant and a great ally in the fight against cancer as well.

Some studies have shown that EGCG inhibits the proliferation of viruses, so there is no doubt that it strengthens the immune system. Although green tea gets the most attention it is ok to use black tea instead.

Do not be afraid to add lemon, honey (not to much) and/or cinnamon to your tea. Not only will that add a great taste to your morning, afternoon and/or evening cup but will also give you more health benefits.

Add honey especially if you have a sore or scratchy throat, it will help soothe it.
