What is causing your cravings?

Our bodies are amazing. They are like super computers that never make a mistake. It knows when we should sleep, wake up, use the bathroom, keep our body temps. at 98.6, our hearts never miss a beat, our lungs are always breathing. It even knows to squint our eyes when the light is to bright. Amazing right?

Check out the foods you eat and your behaviors in your life. That just may be the source of your cravings. Cravings are not a sign of weakness, but instead an important message that is meant to help you find balance. Ask yourself, What does my body want and why?

Being a health couch we look at all the primary foods. Meaning, relationship issues,an exercise routine, being bored, stressed, unhappy with your career, lack of spiritual practice..many may cause emotional eating. Sadly eating is used as a substitute for entrainment or to fill an empty void. Take a look at your primary foods. Do you have balance? or Do you have a void?

Not enough water can also be an issue. Did you know that lack of water can send a message that you are thirsty and on the verge of dehydration? Dehydration can then cause a mild hunger. So when you get a craving have a class of water before you reach for that Peanut butter cup.

Sometime we can have cravings from food that we ate as a child. You know what your mom used to cook? Well have it just make it a healthier version. Maybe have ground Bison or Ground turkey instead of the hamburger in your meat loaf.

Sometimes when the seasons change we crave the food that is in. For instance…
Spring may cause us to crave detoxing foods – like leafy greens,or citrus fruits.
Summer we crave cooling foods – like fruit, raw Veggies and even ice cream
Fall we start craving the grounding foods – like squash and onions maybe even nuts.
Winter we get into the hot or warming foods- meat, oil-fat.
Don’t forget the holidays – you know what we crave then, SWEETS, alcohol, maybe even some turkey. Learn to make clean eating part of your life.

Here is one you may not have known.. Lack of nutrients can cause us to have odd cravings. Not enough or overall inadequate nutrition can cause non nutritional forms of energy. Meaning salt and caffeine. Yep your coffee

Us girls know all about the hormone cravings right?

Menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause, fluctuating testosterone and estrogen levels may cause crazy cravings as well. If you have to give in here, try the 85% dark chocolate with no added sugar maybe even a little bit of peanut butter

De-evolution this is a big one too right? So things are going awesome and all of a sudden you THINK you are not good enough and go into a self sabotage mode. (I know I been here before.) When this happens we crave foods that throw us off, creating more cravings to try to balance ourselves. This often happens from low blood sugar and may result in some pretty strong mood swings… Which brings me to a little bit of mindset….Tell yourself, I am beautiful! I am strong! and damn it.. Im worth it!!

Have a great day :)
