Five Of My Favorite Reasons to Lift Weights

There are a lot of reasons why I like to lift weights, But I narrowed it down to just five. I started this as a post on my Fit Balanced Body page but thought is was a little to long for that.

1) Every day strength - 
               By lifting weights we will become strong or stay strong, making it easier to do our daily activities like cleaning our homes, doing yard work, carrying our grocerie bags, and if you are like me change our furniture around. 

2)  Exercise and weight-training releases endorphins–

               Neurotransmitters that prevent pain, improve mood, and enhance pleasure. We can all use some of that, am I right?

3) Help us to lose fat -
              When we just cut calories without exercise we tend to lose muscle along with fat. No, that is not good. When we lose muscle our bodies become less efficient at burning fat. When we gain muscle our bodies will burn fat 24/7. Now thats a good reason to pick up the weights don't you think? 


4) Build strong bones -
             Yes, Can you believe I was 35 when I was diagnosed with borderline osteoporosis. That was scary to me!  Instead of going on a pill I decided to pick up the weights. I am happy to say that now I am in the middle of the osteopenia stage. As we get older we have a greater chance for our bones to become weaker but lifting weights will build back strong bones. 


5) You can workout anywhere - 
              If you like the gym, that is awesome, but for many woman and men they do not like going to the gym or they travel to much. You really just need to buy some dumbbells. If you have no knowledge of weight training you can buy a book, a dvd on strength training, check out the web, you tube or hire a coach. That way you can workout when it is convenient for you. As you can see I am at home getting in a good shoulder workout, with my dog Chloe while wearing my slippers lol.
