“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.” ― Jordan Belfort We have an excuse for everything don’t we? Our Excuses are always getting in the way of our goals, workouts and eating clean, etc.. What can we do about it? How can we turn our excuses around to help us and do what we know we should be doing? After dinner the weather is awesome and the kids/spouse or dog want to go for a walk and you say no, I have dishes, laundry, vacuuming to do. Maybe tomorrow, but you have the same excuse day after day.. You know the dishes, laundry and vacuuming will always be there (sadly), go enjoy your family and the beautiful weather, it will not always be here. How about making an excuse to go to the gym? I know I have used this one.. ugh I don’t feel like driving to the gym, its too cold or too hot outside. Come on really? That is not an excuse. what would I be doing if I didn’t go to the gym? Eat? mope around? Nothing constructive that is for sure so when I turned it around and said Yes, I am going to the gym it is too cold or too hot outside to do anything else.. I felt incredible, had an awesome workout. NO REGRET’s I have used the excuse ~ I do not want to prep my meals, My kitchen is clean and I do not feel like cooking and cleaning it all up again. The turn around.. Ok, Now everything is clean let me get my food prep done so I am ready for the next couple of days and I do not have to cook or clean up. Everything will be ready and waiting for me. How about ~ oh I need something sweet so you get out the box of Oreo’s or bag of peanut butter cups. Instead of having a bowl of fruit or a fat loss friendly treat that you can make yourself. I notice when I do reach for the Oreo’s or something on that order, I do not feel satisfied and I am still wanting more, But if I have a bowl of frozen cherries I feel refreshed and satisfied with no belly ache.
How about ~ Im going to go to bed after I watch such and such on TV? As you are lying there struggling to keep your eyes open you reach for the chips so you can stay awake to finish watching your show. Really? How important is that show anyway? Chances are that show is going to suck, you are going to be mad at yourself for staying up late and eating chips. Go to bed on time and DVR your show for a more convenient time to watch it. I am famous for the excuse, I will start on Monday.. What does Monday have to do with anything? Everyday is just as important as the other. Truth was I just wanted to enjoy myself, so I gave myself an extra day or two. Why? Probably because I was afraid to change. Another one I hear all The time is ~ I am too old to set a goal. We are never to old to make goals and achieve them. We are only as old as we make our minds up to be. I could go on and on, But you get what I am talking about right? We all have excuses of some sort and use them at our convenience. Im really not sure why, maybe subconsciously we are afraid to fail, let ourselves have a good time, change our habits, or succeed. Next time you try to come up with an excuse ask yourself why don’t I want to do this? Maybe you can turn it around and learn something about yourself. ”the end of the day, let there be no excuses, no explanations, no regrets.” ― Steve Maraboli
