Did you know that fruits and vegetables can help to detox your body?

Veggies and fruits with a high water content can help to flush toxins out of the body. Melon, cucumber, celery and cabbage are top choices for this.

Beyond this, a few veggies (and a few fruits) are super effective at helping to detox:

  • Beets - Great for cleansing the liver and purifying the blood, beets can also help your body to encourage toxins to leave your system after binding to bile. Beets also contain an antioxidant called betalain, which helps cells in the liver to heal and regenerate.

  • Bitter leafy greens - A lot of people can be put off by the bitter taste of some leafy greens but they can be incredibly detoxing. According to research published in the Nutrition Research journal, collard greens can be as effective as medication in lowering cholesterol levels.

  • Broccoli sprouts -Broccoli sprouts are a natural source of glutathione, which supports liver detox, and indole-3-carbinol, which can help the liver to get rid of excess hormones.

  • Asparagus - According to a study published in the Journal of Food Science, asparagus can help cells in the liver to protect themselves against the damaging effects of toxins.

As you can see, veggies can be super important for helping your body to detox, especially the liver. If you’ve been over indulging in sugary and/or processed foods or alcohol, upping your intake of detox friendly veggies can restore some balance.
